Matt Hansen has been a police officer since graduating from the San Diego Regional Law Enforcement Academy in 1995. Originally from a rural area of San Diego County, Matt started his career working for the San Diego Police Department. As a San Diego Police Officer, Matt was a patrol officer assigned to the SWAT Primary Response Team and Sniper Team, Homeland Security Team and a neighborhood policing team.

In 2005, Matt moved his family to Tehama County where he worked for the California State University Police, Chico. At Chico State, Matt served as a patrol sergeant, range master, police lieutenant and emergency preparedness coordinator for the university.

Prior to becoming a police officer, Matt was a Cal Fire firefighter and Nationally Registered Paramedic. Matt obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from National University in 2005. This training and experience led the Institute of Technology to hire Matt, in 2009, to be a part of a cadre of experts tasked with developing and teaching an Applied Associates Degree program in criminology and emergency response management at the Redding campus and throughout the state. Over the course of his career, Matt has received more than 1850 hours of continued professional training. Most of this training is in the area of critical incident management, supervision and police procedures.

Matt was hired by the Red Bluff Police Department in April of 2012 and served the community of Red Bluff as a police reserve and patrol sergeant. In December of 2015, Matt was promoted to lieutenant. In this role, Lieutenant Hansen is responsible for managing the Red Bluff Police Support Services Division. This division is comprised of investigations, communications, property and evidence, records, fleet, and special projects.
Lt. Hansen continues to devote his efforts to the improve the service to the community and efficiency of the Red Bluff Police Department.
